The heartbeat of the Mombasa-Nairobi highway echoed with a new message this week: Sovereignty belongs to the People. In Emali, the reception for the FreeKenya Movement was electric. Traders, youth, and elders alike lined up to append their signatures, proving that the hunger for constitutional reform is a national fire that cannot be extinguished.

As a critical transit hub, Emali feels the weight of the current economic crisis more than most. Our team engaged with residents on the 7-Point FreeKenya Agenda, specifically focusing on:

  • Article 43 and the Right to Food: Residents voiced their support for our initiative to tax-exempt 15 essential commodities. In Emali, the message was clear: “We cannot be a nation of hungry people and high taxes.”
  • A New Governance Structure: The call for Area Specific Devolved Development Funds (ASDEDEF) resonated with locals who want to see resources reaching the village level directly, bypassing the bottlenecks of current systems.

Emali has proven that the spirit of the Popular Referendum Initiative is alive and well in Makueni County. Every signature collected here is a shield against bad governance and a step toward a Kenya that works for everyone.
